Have you ever been in the situation of needing a button, but it’s raining, and you don’t really want to defy the weather, because of one little button?
In this situation, I decided to create a few buttons on my own. I began sketching and designing, and ended with a little bunny. I decided that the holes in the button should be the mouth of the bunny. It ended with these Miffy like button bunnies, and I’m so happy with the result. I guess I may have to replace all of the buttons in my little girls winter knit and dresses with these! The buttons are made of shrinking plastic and they are fairly simple to make.
All you need is:
Template which you can print here
A black marker, to draw on the shrink plastic
Scissor and a pencil
Something to make holes – I used a screw punch, which is great at making holes in paper, leather etc.
Start by cutting the template and make the holes. This makes it easier to put dots for the eyes, and make the holes.
Draw the template on the shrink plastic, and make the holes before you cut the bunny (I found that easier)
Cut the bunny and draw the eyes
Put the bunnies on a piece of baking paper, and put them in a preheated oven.
After a couple of minutes (when the bunnies are completely flat), the buttons are done!
You simply sew the buttons on with a black thread in a cross to form the mouth.
I hope you'll make lots of tiny Miffy buttons! - Heidi korsgaard // Denkreativesky.dk
